Marsha P Johnson
August 24 1945- July 6 1992
Marsha Johnson was an American LGBT+ liberation and aids activist living in New York City. She was a founder of the gay liberation front, and co founder of Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) alongside Silvia Rivera. She was a prominent figure in the drag scene, being a self proclaimed queen, gay man and transvestite. The term transgender was not in wide use at this time, and when questioned on her gender identity Johnson would simply say "the P stands for Pay no mind"
Johnsons death was met with much controversy. She was found in the Hudson river, her death ultimately was rules as suicide but this was not widely accepted within her community and by those closest to her.
